KURDISH INTERNET DOMAINS CLOSED
The US Department of Treasury forced eNom Central, an US Internet
domain hosting company, to shut down four Kurdish domains owned by the
Kurdish Internet hosting company Roj Online. In an automated e-mail to
Roj Online on March 16, 2007, eNom informed the Kurdish company that
“due to information provided to [eNom] by the US Department of Treasury
OFAC, [the] domain names [had] been placed in a registrar-hold status
and disabled” and Roj Online was informed to contact US DoT for further
information. The e-mails were sent by a “Christine Graf” of eNom
Central. The domains in question are KurdishInfo.com, PKK.org, KongraGel.
com and RojOnline.com.
The e-mail from eNom to Roj Online in verbatim:
From : Christine Graf
Sent : Friday, March 16, 2007 7:33 PM
Due to information provide to us by the US Department of Treasury OFAC,
your domain names have been placed in a registrar-hold status and
disabled. If you require additional information, please contact the US
Department of Treasury directly. We are unable to provide you with any
additional information at this time.

The same mail was sent to the contact address of all four domains.
Roj Online, a legal Kurdish Internet hosting company, were put under
scrutiny by German authorities in 2005, and was announced to be a legal
company with no ties to terrorism by a German federal judge.
