Dear all,
The Transport, Telephone and Energy Council is meeting next week
Thursday to discuss the Strategic Energy Technology (SET) plan, where
they will list six industry initiatives as priority for meeting the
Community Emission targets.
The proposed industry initiatives priorities are:
- "European Wind Initiative"
- "Solar Europe Initiative"
- "Bio-Energy Europe Initiative"
- "European CO2 capture, transport and sequestration initiative"
- "European electricity grid initiative"
- "Nuclear fission initiative"
Read the draft conclusion here:
http://register.consilium.europa.eu/pdf/en/08/st05/st05633.en08.pdf
Now, being listed as a priority IN PRINCIPLE doesn't mean anything. But
of course, you all know how this goes. If the EU Council of Ministers
says nuclear fission (and CCS and Bio Energy...) will save us from
climate disaster, they might just spend a little bit less money on the
first two initiatives, or on energy efficiency, to just see if this
Generation IV nuclear plant is really as safe as them nuclear boys are
saying.
But before I get carried away, this minsters meeting is on the 28th of
February, one week from now.
Is there a group which wants to contact is energy minster and asks them
to be very critical of nuclear being shortlisted with the other
(potential) "low carbon" industries?
If you do, Let me know, and I will provide you with a lobby letter as
soon as possible for you to be still in time to use it to work on your
government.
Regards,
Daniël
